| Oscar | Yeah, sorry, didn't know you were there. |
| Sam | It's OK. Pretty nice ball. |
| Oscar | It's just a ball. |
| Sam | Oh, no. It's a special ball. |
| Boy 2 | Only thing special about that ball mister is he bought it on special. (Boys laugh and high–five each other.) |
| Sam | Not true...it's your ball and that's what makes it special. |
| Boy 3 | Come on old man, give us back our ball. |
| Oscar | You're stopping our game. |
| Sam | Actually...it's just begun! |
| Simultaneously street light goes on. Boys notice street light. Sam throws ball and boys exit. Sam returns to boxes, tidies up, gets out handkerchief, cleans face and quietly makes cloth disappear. Reaches in pants and pulls long chain with watch. | |
| Sam | It's about time to get to work. (Finishes cleaning up then sighs) Another night on Dead End Street. I wonder what' sin store for me tonight. Gotta feeling it'sgonna be good. |
